Artisan Purses by Miharu

From Ibaraki, Japan come Miharu, creating delightful and playful kiss lock artisan purses and pouches – all from vintage textiles & leather. The materials are found through her selective vintage clothing and antique textile dealers that she got to discover while she used to work as a professional fashion stylist.

The kiss lock purse, also known as Gamaguchi, is a type of coin purse hardware clasp where two interlocking metal beads are set on the top of the frame. The origin of the name “gama-guchi” comes from the fact that it resembles a toad with a big mouth. “Gama” means toad, and “guchi” means mouth in Japanese.

Miharu has been creating these one-of-a-kind treasures for 10 years.  Each unique artisanal purse is meticulously crafted, with attention to detail.

“In the exquisite weave of my craft, I embark on a quest for that elusive material—the one that whispers secrets of possibility. Every stitch I meticulously place becomes a testament to my unwavering commitment to detail—a symphony of precision and love.”
